Have you ever had a Gingerbread Latte at Starbucks? Yummy, eh?! Well, you can make them at home, too! We might not be baristas or have fancy espresso machines, but we can still make a pretty decent cup with ingredients that are easily at hand!
Summary: You can use strong regular brewed coffee in place of the espresso, if you don’t have an espresso machine.
- To make the syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- To make the latte:
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1/2 cup hot espresso
- For topping:
- Whipped cream, to taste
- Ground nutmeg, to taste
- For syrup, put water, sugar, ginger and cinnamon in medium pan. Bring to boil on high heat, whisking frequently. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
- For lattes, scald milk in microwave on high power 1 minute, until steamy. Aerate with handheld frother. Or steam and froth in espresso machine.
- Pour espresso into 2 cups. Stir 2 tablespoons syrup into each cup. (You will have some left over to use later!) Add milk and froth to each cup.
- For topping, dollop cream, then sprinkle of nutmeg on each. Makes 2.
