Movabletype 2.6

Movabletype 2.6 is out now of course and I'm late to the party but I've just finished upgrading so I thought I'd post a few notes about it.

First, if you have added anything to your extlib folder (plugin files), just before you upgrade, go onto your server and rename your extlib folder "extlibold". This will preserve the existing folder/files and prevent overwriting it with the new one. Then you can safely upload all the new 2.6 files. Once uploaded, simply copy the extra files in your now extlibold into the newly created extlib folder.

Secondly, make sure you read the installation instructions about whether or not to run the upgrade script. If you are upgrading from 2.51 and run on mysql, you do need to run the script. Don't forget to chmod the mt-upgrade26 file to 755 before you try to run it.

If you were running Brad Choate's sanitize plugin before, you'll want to go into your comment template and your individual archive template and back out the sanitize plugin code. This is now built in to 2.6. You can also delete the plugin files off your server as well.

I've seen some people having problems with smilies disappearing after the upgrade. There's a forum thread about smilies if you experience this problem.

I found some useful information at Dive into Mark as well on some extra things to do with this new version.
