IE7 final released, time to stop procrastinating

The IEBlog announces IEBlog : IE7 for the World and I guess that's my cue to start addressing the reality of IE7 in wide use (yes, I'm seriously guilty of procrastinating on this!).

IE7 final is available for download now on the Microsoft site and according to the IEBlog, will be pushed to users through Automatic Updates a couple of weeks after it is available for download. The IEBlog also helpfully outlines the changes in IE7.

To install IE7 for testing and retaining IE6 for testing, there is are some IE7 standalone solutions here and here.

Of course, once installed, the time comes for addressing rendering issues in IE7, while keeping the site in one piece in IE6 and earlier versions, as well as all the other browsers out there.

The consensus seems to be that Conditional Comments are the way to go. The always useful Position is Everything takes a look at CSS Hacks and IE7 and offers solutions for 'going legit'. If you've been a heavy user of the Star * Hack (guilty!), Wither the Star-HTML hack? is a useful read. And also at PIE, PNG Drop Shadows is a good read for taking advantage of IE7's PNG support.
