Cheap cameras don't take crappy photos, people do is a one of the nicest illustration I've seen on how to improve photos, regardless of what kind of camera you're using to take the picture. The article looks at composition, moving closer, taking lots of photos then picking the best of the bunch and then refining the photo in photoshop.
