Snapper Firefox Extension (Updated for Firefox 2.0): easily capture a portion of any page

Snapper is one of those "must-have" Firefox extensions, for me. It sits in the status bar and when clicked I can slice out any portion of any page that I want as an image. It's what I use for all the images on this site.

Note: The file below will not work with Firefox 3. My simple hack was not enough to get it to work in Firefox 3. Obviously something else has changed that is breaking it and I'm not familiar enough with the inner workings of extension to fix it. For Firefox 3 users, I suggest the Screengrab Firefox extension or the Dashblog Firefox Extension for similar functionality.

I was reminded tonight though, as I upgraded to Firefox 2.0.0.2 , that Snapper still hasn't been updated and is only compatible up to Firefox 1.5. So, since I hacked* the extension to work with Firefox 2.*, I thought I would share it for anyone else wanting to use it. Download Snapper for Firefox 2.0+ then install from within Firefox by selecting File menu > Open File and selecting the snapper xpi file you downloaded.

* I just upped the max version to 3.0. Tested and working fine in Firefox 2.0.0.2
