Colour Lovers introduces Patterns

Colour fan site COLOURlovers has introduced Colour Patterns. Color Design Blog / Patterns - More Ways to Play with Color. If you're not creative or in a rush, just browse patterns that others have made.
We knew that you loved finding great colors and arranging them in color palettes… so we guessed that you might want something to do with those palettes (Seeing as you’ve already created more than 3,400 different patterns in 2 days, I think we guessed right). We launched with just a couple dozen patterns to color but hope to add hundreds more over time.
And the very cool part, you can create your own pattern!

There are a ton of color tools out there but there's something fun about adding color names in to the mix. Name that Color.
"Being a typical guy, I have no clue what the colors Lavender and Mauve look like. You can show me Indigo and I won't know if it's more like Violet or Purple. So I made this little app where you can create a color on the screen (or copy-paste CSS hex# color) and find out the name of the closest matching color."
Don't miss the color drop-down box which lists 1500+ colors.

Instant Color Schemes from words
![]()
Instant Color Schemes takes a unique approach to generating color schemes. You just type in a descriptive word (or words), such as "blue sky" and a color scheme is generated.
How does it work? Instant Color Schemes takes 5 related images from Yahoo Image Search and then shows the most prominent 6 colors from each image.
You can chose from a number of suggested words or enter your own. Some words work better than others. The scheme illustrated above is from the scheme 'Antarctica', but there's no #FFFFFF in it at all, which probably would be the obvious color to be returned. (Maybe they screen out white :)
A fun tool to play with though for color inspiration and the use of words might help focus colors based on the tone or mood you're going for.
I Like Your Colors Color Tool
![]()
I Like Your Colors is a color tool that grabs the color scheme from any url that you specify.
It works pretty well, with the exception that it won't grab colors from images, only from CSS (background colors, fonts etc). That said though, it's a lot easier than rooting around someone's CSS file yourself to find out exactly what that gorgeous shade of red is.
