A snippet is composed of a title, description, and one or more 'snips'. You can add any number of note and code snips in a variety of different languages (more to be added). When not being edited, the snip will be syntax highlighted according to the language selected. Snips are also sortable so you can organize your snippet however you want. Get Organized with Evernote

I have always used a little notes program to keep track of code snippets, passwords and all kinds of other things I want to keep safe and handy in one place. Thickbox 2
I had a look at the Thickbox lightbox-like script earlier and covered it in "Which Lightbox is right for you?" and see now that Thickbox has gone v2.
Reading through the features, it would seem that Thickbox almost has it all! it can be used to show a single image, multiple images, inline content, iframed content (GreyBox functionality!), or content served through AJAX in a hybrid modal. Thickbox will resize images to fit, hide form elements in IE6, remain centered in the browser window and more.
Thickbox is also relatively code light, at least when compared to the prototype-based lightbox scripts.
Thickbox is a very versatile tool, with one script able to handle a number of different site functions from login to image gallery. Perhaps the only thing missing, that some might like, is image transitions, which have been removed from v2 of Thickbox. Of course, the code savvy could no doubt add these in, if they wanted.
So if you're looking for a lightbox, head on over and check out ThickBox 2.0.

Which Lightbox is right for you?
[Updated Version October 2007 »]
Thickbox - jQuery powered, AJAX enabled, so it's lightweight and efficient. Allows images or html in lightbox. JS overhead, about 40k. (Now with a WordPress plugin, as well)
[New] Slightly ThickerBox 1.1 is a mod of the Thickbox script, that integrates previous and next links (excellent for image galleries) and the ability to create groups of galleries.
GreyBox - An iframe approach to creating popups on the screen, fo images, html or even a different url - about 20k of overhead.
GreyBox Redux - unobtrusive (no need to embed JS into your site) and even lighter weight than GreyBox.
Lightbox v2.0 - the original for images only. Uses prototype and sciptaculous libriaries so it's a bit code-heavy, but very nice for image use.
Lightbox with moo.fx - souped up with moo.fx transitions etc, still prototype based and only for images, however.
Lightbox Gone Wild - a lightbox variation as a modal window, so allows html, forms etc as well as images. Still uses prototype so again, a bit code-heavy.
Multi-faceted LIghtbox - prototyped based again, but offers a variety of options for different types of data that can be loaded in the lightbox.
Leightbox - very similar to Lightbox Gone Wild (prototype based, allows images, html etc) except that Leightbox keeps the lightbox content in the html, but hidden from view, so that it can be indexed by search engines.
xilinus - easy to use, prototype-based, easily customizable and allows for a variety of lightbox content options.
Lightbox Plus - original lightbox plus additional features allowing for expandable images and automatic image resizing based on window size.
Suckerfish Hover Lighbox - lightbox effect while keeping accessibility. Not classic lightbox-ish but a nice presentation, nonetheless.
Lightbox Plugin for WordPress or Lightbox Plugin for WordPress or the GreyBox Plugin for WordPress
[New] Litebox - a code-reduced version of Lightbox, uses the moo.fx library and prototype-lite. A good choice if page weight is a concern.
[New] LITBox - a lightbox written in to a class, so it is possible to open multiple instances of the lightbox and control each separately. Based on Thickbox.
[New] iBox - offers the best of other versions, with the added bonus of support for non javascript enabled surfers (by redirecting their requests to a regular html page.) iBox supports images, html, login boxes etc.
Slimbox - is a 7kb visual clone of the popular Lightbox JS, written using the ultra compact mootools framework (separate install that will add 16kb to the total weight). It was designed to be small, efficient, more convenient and 100% compatible with the original Lightbox v2. Images only.
[New] YUI PhotoViewer - a lightbox gallery script built for the Yahoo User Interface Library. Lots of options, including the ability to load photos from an XML file.

Feed on Feeds
I have been in search of the perfect RSS software forever. I have tried just about all the big name ones. None seemed to "fit". My wishlist included the following: Somehow integrated with my browser (Firebird). I'm lazy. I don't want to open another program. I want access to my bookmarks so I can bookmark things that interest me to come back to later. I want access to my reads from work. I want to easily see who has updated. I want to display only the new items. I want to be bandwidth-friendly and have the ability to control when and how I update my feeds (I have a lot of them!). I don't need them updating every hour. I only need them updated when I'm ready to read them. I wanted to be able to customize the look to suit me. If I'm going to spend a lot of time looking at them, I want a look I like.
So, after trying almost all of the major feed readers out there so far, enter Feed on Feeds. It's a server-side script and runs on any server with PHP/mysql. It's easy to set up if you're familiar with these types of scripts. It's accessible from my work since it's on my server. It supports OPML import. It displays in my browser just like any other page. Bookmarking is easy. Opening links that interest me in the background in tabs is easy. I can update the feeds all at once, individually, manually or through an automated cron job if I wanted to. I can view the feeds in a number of ways as well . It has a bookmarklet to auto-disover feeds and subscribe as I surf around. A few simple changes and I was also able to customize the look of the output as well (although it does a fine job out of the box).
I do believe I've found the perfect RSS reader for me!

Ebay search results through RSS
Thanks to John for pointing me to this script's author. The author, his post and the original code is from Waxy.org.
This PHP script executes a search on ebay for a specified item and then returns the results as an RSS feed that you can put into your News Reader. The search results will be updated on the same schedule as your blog reads etc.
For example, I am currently looking for lenses for my Olympus Camera. I submitted a search for this and put the results into my News Reader and this is what it looks like (screen capture).
It's very easy to implement. You need to be able to run php on your server, of course. Instructions for implementing within Movable Type follow in the extended although you don't need MT to use this script. Alternately, just upload the php file to your server and point your browser to it to open it up and follow steps 7-9 below.

PHP Script to Bounce Searchers
New from Scriptygoddess, an update to an earlier script that bounces visitors arriving at your site through Google. This update bounces visitors from a host of search engines. The script is PHP and is obviously not for everyone. Many welcome visitors from search engines. If you're like me though and would like to keep your personal journal away from people looking for nekid pictures of my muther, this script is for you! ;) (Intentional poor spelling to throw off the googlers).

Nice Titles
I've been playing with Nice Titles here today, seen at Kadyelebee's and at MovableBlog. You can see them in action by hovering over some of the links on this page.
I'm having a little display problem though. The links in the body of the posts pop up the Nice Titles about an inch above the link in IE6 but display properly on the sidebar links. It seems to be related to MT somehow, because with the same browser, the NiceTitles display properly on other pages, outside of a MT post. Hmmmm. Anyone care to guess why that is? :)
P.S. This seems to be only supported in the newest of browsers. You may not be seeing anything at all if you don't have the latest version of your browser.
Updated: Feb. 15, 2003. I removed the script from the page because I couldn't get it to behave properly in IE6 in the post body. Probably something at my end and not a reflection on the script as I've seen it work properly on other sites, but I didn't want to invest the time debugging it.
Flip Gallery 2
I recall seeing the original "Flip Gallery" code awhile back and thought it was very cool. It's now been updated as Flip Gallery 2, and said to be "about 99% more user friendly". It does look great! Nice looking slide show script using PHP and customized for use with Movable Type too. [Sample Flip Gallery page here]
Google hilite

Setting up the LGF Referrer Script on MT
I wrote this up for someone today, so I thought I'd post it here as well in case someone is looking for step-by-step instructions for installing the LGF Referrer Script (link on the left sidebar under "Scripts") in movabletype. This is a php script, so you must be able to run that. Also, it requires that the page you want to track referrers to be php (ie. index.php). Instructions follow:

Link, Bold, Italics in Comment Area
Scriptygoddess has come up with another great script - this one for adding bold, italics and links in the blog comment areas. You'll find their entry with the script here. You can see it in action on this blog by clicking on the comment link.
Added later: It was pointed out to me that the script could be made more XHTML compliant be changing it from bold to strong and from italic to em. This is easily changed by editing the head section of the script and replacing the b tags with strong and the i tags with em.
Entries: Conditional Comments/Trackback
For anyone who hasn't already found it elsewhere, here is the PHP code for conditional comments - ie. Comment? 1 Comment, 2 Comments. The code for trackbacks is included as well. The bolded part is the part that will show on your page that you may want to change to your own preference of wording. Code follows

Table generating script
This script from scriptygoddess is very handy and I wanted to bookmark it here as well. While originally intended to generate tables on the fly for thumbnails in a photolog, I've found it can be made to work for a variety of uses, such as putting archive listings into columns etc, just by changing the MT related tags to the appropriate ones. Javascript and php versions are available.
Collapsing Entries and Comments
Since I've seen this asked on the MT Forum several times lately, I thought I'd just bookmark it here. This is the link to the instructions for making extended entries and comments open and close on the index page - Scriptygoddess Link
Using Lists for Drop Down Menus
gazingus.org - Using Lists for DHTML Menus looks great, promising cross-browser functionality and the ability to degrade well and maintain access to content! I'm bookmarking it to check out for future use.
Thanks to lashlar for the link.
Gallery Script
Somewhere in my travels today I came across this link to Coppermine's Image Gallery PHP Script. It offers support for both an embedded and a stand-alone photo gallery, that can be styled to match your website. Looks like it's worth checking out.
Drop Down Category Listings
[Source] Mcroft shares code for putting category listings in a drop down box (about half-way down the page). I'm assuming the first part of the code goes in the HEAD section with the MT scripts and the second part goes where the drop-down menu should appear on the page. I'll have to test that out!
Added later: Tested it out and it is quick and easy. The first part of the code should go in the HEAD section, in between the <script> </script> tags The second part can just be pasted into your index template where you want the drop-down menu to appear. It could easily be used for recent entries or archives, by switching the MT Tags in the code to the appropriate ones.
Added later, later: Loopy provides this alternative, from Pete Bevin. I'll check that out as well, loopy! Thanks.
Edit from your main page
Girlie shares how to place an [edit] link within each entry on your index page, that only you can see, which allows you to edit a post simply by clicking on the link. Requires PHP. I have it working on my blog and it is a great time saver.
