Eraser has had over 4 million downloads on Sourceforge, which is nothing to sneeze at, and reassuring when you're dealing with data removal. A handy utility for many reasons, but most widely, as a way to wipe a computer before selling, I think.

The IEBlog announces IEBlog : IE7 for the World and I guess that's my cue to start addressing the reality of IE7 in wide use (yes, I'm seriously guilty of procrastinating on this!).

IE7 final is available for download now on the Microsoft site and according to the IEBlog, will be pushed to users through Automatic Updates a couple of weeks after it is available for download. The IEBlog also helpfully outlines the changes in IE7.

To install IE7 for testing and retaining IE6 for testing, there is are some IE7 standalone solutions here and here.

Of course, once installed, the time comes for addressing rendering issues in IE7, while keeping the site in one piece in IE6 and earlier versions, as well as all the other browsers out there.

The consensus seems to be that Conditional Comments are the way to go. The always useful Position is Everything takes a look at CSS Hacks and IE7 and offers solutions for 'going legit'. If you've been a heavy user of the Star * Hack (guilty!), Wither the Star-HTML hack? is a useful read. And also at PIE, PNG Drop Shadows is a good read for taking advantage of IE7's PNG support.

Some more good reading for IE7 preparedness training ...

CSS Hacks
Easy CSS Hacks for IE7
Solving the IE7 CSS Problem
Stop Hacking, or be stopped
IE7 Resources and Information at css-discuss
Clearing floats without structural markup

Finally, I stumbled across this IE7 Quick Reference cheat sheet, which might be useful for some.

That's it for now. I have proclaimed this my personal "check my sites in IE7" day. Taking deep breath ...

When Pageflakes first appeared on the scene, I was impressed. Somehow though, in my never ending quest for better information management, I drifted to Netvibes. Hearing that Pageflakes had an update prompted me to return to have another look. All I can say is "Wow".

Not only is the new Pageflakes look great, but the 'feel' is just as good. Solid and quick. I'm particularly impressed with the way RSS Feeds are handled. By default, clicking on a item in a displayed feed, opens up the Pageflakes RSS Reader, which offers either a 3-panel Outlook style feed view or a Newspaper view. Each feed can also be set individually to open the original page in your browser or in Pageflakes internal browser.

Other added features include the ability to share pages with the public or with only certain users and 'templates', which are pre-configured pages with items of different themes (entertainment, sports, digg etc).

If you haven't checked out Pageflakes lately, it's worth another look.
