What to do with your fresh strawberries
Wondering what to do with your big basket of fresh, local strawberries? Here’s some great ideas I’ve found, from baking, to Popsicles to cocktails!
It’s finally strawberry season! Every year I wait anxiously for it and every year I spend some time pondering what to do with them all. Of course, there’s always the obvious – slice, sugar, eat. But usually I have a lot and I need to use them up, so I need a few more ideas.
I have a number of strawberry recipes already here at Food and Family. All of them are great and I’m sure I’ll be making a couple of them this season (I’ve put links to these recipes at the bottom of this post).
I’m always looking for more ideas though, so I thought I’d do a virtual tour of some of my favourite foodie spots and see what I can find.
Strawberry Daquiri – strawberries aren’t just for eating. You can drink them, too! And on a hot early summer day, you can’t go wrong with this strawberry, rum, ice daquiri.
Strawberry Mojito – another way to drink your strawberries!
Easy Strawberry Napoleons – use store-bought puff pastry and vanilla pudding mix, for an easy but impressive strawberry dessert.
Strawberry Cream Cheese Tart – Beautiful tart, with a crust, a cream cheese filling, fresh sliced strawberries and a chocolate ganache drizzle on top.
Strawberry Buttermilk Muffins – these sound like they’d be perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
Strawberry Crumb Bars – Strawberries, baked on a short crust and topped with a sweet crumb. Yum.
Whole Grain Strawberry Crumble Bars – Looking to bake with a little whole grain? These bars certainly fit the bill and they look delicious!
Strawberry Sour Cream Scones with Brown Sugar Crumble – The classic scone dotted with fresh strawberries. How can that possibly be anything but great?
Strawberry Cheesecake Muffins – just like the favourite strawberry cheesecake, in muffin form.
Whole Wheat Strawberry Scones – beautiful, whole grain and fruit-studded. Can’t go wrong, here.
Strawberry Baked French Toast – perfect breakfast for this weekend!
Strawberry Cake – simple, classic and looks beautiful.
Strawberry Shortcake Cookies – sugar cookies, studded with ruby red strawberries.
Strawberry Buttermilk Sherbet – a nice change up from the classic strawberry ice cream. The buttermilk would add a lovely tang to this dessert and make it naturally low-fat.
Strawberry Sublime Popsicles – fresh strawberries, pureed with sugar and lemon juice and frozen for a fruity, frozen treat.
Strawberries and Cream Popsicles – fresh strawberries, mixed with cream, sugar and vanilla and frozen.
Frozen Yogurt Strawberry Pops – popsicle meets cake pop. Fresh strawberries on a stick and coated in yogurt and frozen. Fun!
